Recap

This episode introduces viewers to Polka Dots, a small, stuffed green dog toy of Blue's with purple polka dots, who previously appeared in some of the Blue's Clues episodes. They also learn more about Joe's stuffed duck, Boris. Blue plays pretend with Slippery, learning that using their imagination and perhaps their stuffed friend, they can do anything that they want to do. Then, Blue meets Periwinkle's friend, Mr. Plate, and visit new places and situations with the two of them. But Blue and Polka Dots wants to pretend something, so a game of Blue's Clues is required still to figure out.

Trivia

• In this episode, Blue is shown on-screen, placing her pawprint on every clue. This is largely because the focus is on Blue for most of the episode anyway, while Joe is busy playing with stuffed duck, Boris.
• This episode served as a springboard to introduce Polka Dots, who was introduced as a living puppet character in Blue's Room and the Blue's Room segments starting with "The Legend of the Blue Puppy". Polka Dots was first seen in "Bedtime Business."
  • In general, episodes that are called "Meet (character's name)!" are usually the debut of a new character. However, Polka Dots was seen before this episode premiered.
• Beginning with this episode, the format of showing one episode at the start of the week and then showing continuous repeats to reinforce the concepts is officially abandoned.
• This episode appeared in Nickelodeon listings as "Polka Dots," but the title pennant at the ending of the intro read "Meet Polka Dots!".
• In the Mailtime Segment, Joe quacked the "Mailtime" song and the last line of the theme song and The So Long Song, instead of singing the lyrics, like Boris.
• This is similar to Steve clucking like a chicken during the "Mailtime" song in Animal Behavior.
• In this episode, Slippery, Tickety, and Periwinkle referred to Polka Dots as her just like Joe did in "Blue Goes to the Doctor".

• Jack and Julia from Tickety's Favorite Nursery Rhyme appear in this episode.
• In this episode, Notebook Friend asks for clues by saying "Please!" with Joe, who wishes he could say "Coming right up!".
• After the clues say, "Now that we're three, what will we be?", Joe does not say, "Hey, Notebook Friend, guess what?" and Notebook Friend does not say, "What, Joe, what?".
• In this episode, Notebook Friend joins Joe for Blue's Clues and Boris joins him for breaks.

Credits

• Blue appears three times with Polka Dots while doing her 2nd (upside-down), 5th (hopping across), and 1st (waving goodbye) actions.
• For some unknown reason, Mailbox appears with a new animation that only appears in just this episode. He stretches all the way to the middle of the credit slide from the right, waves his flag harder, and does not loop it around.
• Periwinkle holds up Mr. Plate waving The Viewer goodbye.
• Mr. Plate then appears as a doctor, an octopus, and a friendly monster that goes "Oogla Boogla!" just like that in Blue's Big Costume Party.
• This episode holds the record for most character appearances in the credits.

Goofs

• During the Blue's Clues theme song, Blue pulls out the notebook friend replaced by the normal notebook, as usual.
• When the answer is revealed, the 2nd clue is frozen and didn't nod itself.
• After Joe sings, "…we're really smart.", he does not say, "Bye-bye, Notebook Friend." so Notebook Friend leaves on his own.
• After We Sat On Down is sung, Joe does not say, "Polka Dots made up a song that he and Blue can sing when they play outer space together. Will you sing with him? You will? Great! Super great! All right, hit it! And you can dance too if you want.".
