"A Snowy Day" is the 10th episode of Blue's Clues from the first season and the 9th to be aired in the United States.

Summary

"It's a snowy day and we need to figure out what Blue wants to do in the snow. As we find her clues, we also match snowflakes with Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper, help a calendar friend fix her mixed-up weather picture, and help Steve remember what's missing on Blue as she gets ready to go outside."

Recap

It is a snowy day, and Steve and Blue are going outside to play. They play a game of Blue's Clues to figure out what Blue wants to do in the snow. The first clue was a carrot. Later on, they observe snowflake patterns with Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper. In the Skidoo segment, they help a calendar girl to fix the scene depicted in a calendar picture to match the winter season. After Skidooing back home, Steve finds the second clue on a hat. We also help Blue to figure out what she is missing when she loses some winter clothing items while trying to get dressed to get ready to go outside. Mailbox comes inside to deliver the mail and shakes the snow off. Some get on the thinking chair. In the letter, some kids were making paper snowflakes. Not long after that, Steve finds the third clue on a big snowball. Steve draws it out and returns to the thinking chair to put all three clues together. The clues were a carrot, a hat, and a snowball. Steve thought that they could put the snowball in the hat and have a snowball sundae with a carrot on top. That was a silly answer. The viewer studied the three clues and thought making a snowman was a better idea. After figuring out Blue's Clues, Steve and Blue head outside to make a snowman. Mr. Salt, Mrs. Pepper, Calendar Girl, and Tickety Tock helped decorate it. After that, Steve sings the So Long Song and this episode ends.

The sledding music was later used in Blue's Big Holiday and The Anything Box.

This is the only appearance of Calendar Girl.
This is the third produced episode and the second aired episode to use, "No, it's a clue" from Adventures in Art.

Sidetable was the only character that didn't play in the snow with the other characters because all she said was "Blue's Clues, I'm so excited!" and was not fully developed.
Just like Magenta Comes Over, the Mailtime Segment takes place rather close to the end instead of more towards the middle.
This is the first time to have a clue moving by itself while making a sound.
When Steve says "Hi" to the viewer, his voice is high-pitched.
During Steve's message saying he needs the viewer's help to figure out the answer, his hair is now different from the other episodes. This has also happened in the previous episode Pretend Time.
- Also, before Steve gets his notebook from Sidetable Drawer, a re-shot of his hair from Mid-Late Season 1 (that would also be used from What Does Blue Want to Make?, Tickety’s Favorite Nursery Rhyme, and What Story Does Blue Want to Play?) was used.
This is the first episode where Steve sings The So Long Song outside of the house instead of inside the house.
- Therefore, it does not zoom out of the house, nor does Blue pop up to bark and wave goodbye to the viewer before the credits appear. They are close to the door, but they're not.
- This will happen again in later episodes.
This is the first aired episode where Steve's voice is a bit lower-pitched and calmer, although there are most instances with his voice higher pitched, like in all the later episodes of Season 1.
This was the last episode to air in 1996, two days before Christmas.

Story Time with Josh & Blue -10 📖 "Snowy Day with Steve" - Blue's Clues & You!
This is the first time the second clue was found after the Skidoo segment.
In the credits, jingle bells are heard. This happens again in Blue's Big Holiday and Blue's First Holiday. Jingle Bells are also heard as the music for the carrot.
The same clues and the same answer were used during the movie in Blue's First Holiday when Steve was a child and Joe was a baby living at the house. However, this episode is a little different because Steve was trying to figure out where Joe's duck blanket was, and it was by the snowman in front of their house. Thus, Blue's Clues was first played, as is revealed in that episode.
The footage where Steve asks "What's going on Blue?" and Blue looks up in the calendar in this episode would later be reused in Backstage at Blue's Clues in Blue's Big Musical Movie on DVD
This was the first episode to air on Nick Jr. in 2015.

Goofs

At the start of the episode, it looks like a beautiful, summer day outside and there are leaves on the tree. In real life, there would be no leaves on the tree and it would be cloudy, although the sun does shine when snow is on the ground.
When Steve sees the first clue (a carrot) a thin clear line can seen on the screen if the viewers were to look closely.
When Blue, Steve, Mr. Salt, and Mrs. Pepper are looking at snowflakes through the window in the kitchen, they would not be able to see the snowflake patterns in real life, nor would any snowflakes look alike in real life.
When Blue skidoos into the calendar, Steve's skidoo sound plays.
- This is the only time in the series this happens.
When Steve and Blue sing the "Mailtime song" the bottom and right side of the screen are bordered with a thin white line.
- There are statics that briefly appear near the bottom right corner. It's unknown who or what caused this error to occur.
When Steve is about to draw the third clue (a snowball), just as he was getting his notebook and while he was turning the first two pages in his notebook, if you look closely, you can see that there is literally nothing on those two pages.
After Steve draws the third clue (a snowball), the pawprint is still seen on one of the big snowballs.
