Periwinkle is ready for his first day of school. Once he gets there, he finds that he thinks that school is lots of fun. He takes part in activities such as circle time and painting time and even gets to feed Giggles, the class bunny. When it is time to go home, he likes school so much that he wants to play it as a game at home. And since the third clue was found on the way home, Joe figured out Blue's Clues and when playing school, they play the answer to Blue's Clues, which is circle time.
Plot[]
The episode starts with Periwinkle, saying that it is his first day of school. He has his lunch box with him. After going through the door panel we see Joe (in his yellow shirt). Periwinkle already had breakfast. Then we see Blue and play Blue's Clues.
After this, Periwinkle went to feed a bunny named Giggles, Green Puppy went to build block towers and not knock them down, Blue went to read books, Purple Kangaroo went to be the line leader, Orange Kitten went to water plants like Blue and Joe did at Magenta's house, and Magenta went to get some sunscreen. Miss Marigold said that Giggles needed exactly three cups of bunny food, otherwise known as twenty-four fluid ounces, forty-eight tablespoons, or one hundred and forty-four teaspoons.
Then we find the second clue (with Joe), Friends was a second clue (Just like A Brand New Game). We drew it in our Notebook.
Then suddenly, when it was time to go outside, Purple Kangaroo and Periwinkle were fighting over who should be the line leader, which is not fair. Miss Marigold handled the situation and told Periwinkle that he will get to go first another day and when Purple Kangaroo is the line leader, otherwise known as the engine, Miss Marigold said that Periwinkle should be the caboose, like the back car of a train.
After going outside, Miss Marigold waited inside and we see Periwinkle, Orange Kitten, and Green Puppy, Periwinkle splashed both Orange Kitten and Green Puppy while playing with the submarine, which is a risky toy. Orange Kitten got mad at Periwinkle. Then, Periwinkle stopped, breathed, and thought when he was frustrated, and then said sorry, but played with the helicopter, which was a calm toy to cheer him up and it was the only toy that does not belong in water, but only the sky and it's different from the other toys that live in water.
Suddenly, when it was painting time, Periwinkle turned around, wandered off, and played with the blocks just like Green Puppy on the job wheel as the previous activity by mistake. Miss Marigold asked Periwinkle what he was doing and he said that he was building. That made Miss Marigold feel mad at him after noticing that building time was not on the schedule and told him that he could build tomorrow when he comes in and that made him say "Okay!" as an apology and go to the easels after putting the blocks away neatly so she won't have to nag him.
Then it was lunchtime and Periwinkle ate his lunch.
After lunch, the final part of school was reading time. Blue read a space book and Periwinkle read a math book upon the arrival of Joe, who read a duck book. When Periwinkle said, "But I don't want to go home." and said that he loves school, so Joe said it was okay and he helped Periwinkle and Blue get home safely.
After school, Joe brought Periwinkle and Blue home to the Blue's Clues house. Beforehand, we see the third clue (A circle), that Baby Bird is holding by his feet.
Then we went home to think about what Blue's favorite part of school is, otherwise known as thinking about what Joe and Blue are going to play after Periwinkle's first day. It was circle time.
Then we played circle time. Periwinkle pretended to be his teacher, Miss Marigold. Then the episode ends.
Elements[]
Educational Theme: School Routines
Question: What is Blue's favorite part of school? or What are we going to play after Periwinkle's first day?
Amber Anderson and Associate Producer Shannon George are friends of Joe in this episode. Amber is related to Dr. Dan Anderson, a former content consultant.
According to the original website of Elizabeth Holder, one working title for this episode was Peri's First Day of School. The episode appears in some online listings as Periwinkle's First Day of School. However, the actual title pennant said "Blue Takes You to School".
Before this episode was released, a book was published titled "Blue Goes to School".
Near the end of the movie Daddy Day Care, Becca (one of the kids in the movie) can be seen reading this book.
Blue skidooed into her school in past episodes like "Blue's Sad Day" and "Shy" as well as a later episode, and earlier in the season, but in this episode, Blue went to the actual physical building to go to school.
In the book of this episode, Purple Kangaroo says that green was his favorite color, being referred to as himself in it, but in this episode, he says that purple was his favorite color, being referred to as himself in that one.
In both the episode and the book, Orange Kitten got splashed by Periwinkle. Different people were splashed beside her, Blue was splashed in the book, and Green Puppy was splashed in the episode.
The wind-up toy from "Blue's Senses" appears in one of the cubbies next to the second clue (a picture of friends).
When everyone lined up at the door for recess, the drawings near the chalkboard from "Draw Along with Blue" (including the one with Snail on it) are hung near the door.
This is also the 4th and final time Joe's colored choice for his shirt was yellow, if one doesn't count Joe's duck outfit from Dress Up Day and Joe's Clues. He wore it for four episodes for the entire time of Blue's Clues and all four episodes in season 5.
When the classmates were introducing each other with their favorite color, nobody picked the colors green and orange, but only the viewers did.
This is the last Season 5 episode going by production order in which the clues magically appear in the notebook, sing and talk. On the next produced episode in which Joe plays Blue's Clues, "Blue Goes to The Doctor", it reverts back to the stock footage of Joe drawing the clues again.
In this episode, Periwinkle says, "Thanks for a great day!", which will happen again later in Blue's Wishes as said by Joe.
Some TV listings call the episode “Periwinkle’s First Day of School”.
In this episode, Joe could have said, "…especially with Periwinkle. He'll never forget that you helped him make it to his first day.".
After Joe says, "Now that we're in our thinking chair...", he could've said, "And now that we're home..." because Periwinkle's first day is already over.
The alternate question, which is "What are we going to play after Periwinkle's first day?" is a rhyme.
At school, Periwinkle causes confusion and delay like Thomas.
The circle says Slippery's catchphrase.
In this episode, the chalkboard with the sun means that it's recess time, not weather time. That's because weather time happened at Blue's made-up school, which took place in the Blue's Clues house.
When Periwinkle says, "Are you my teacher?", what he means is "Am I your friend?".
In this episode, Miss Marigold angrily says, "But that's not what it's time for." about building, but what she means in a silly way is "But I don't think it's time for that." or when speaking to Periwinkle, "But it ain't time for that, silly.".
After recess, Miss Marigold could've said, "Periwinkle, you were supposed to paint!" and Periwinkle could've said, "Well, I guess I built!", just like the Fairy Godmother who said, "Harold, you were supposed to give her the potion!" and Harold could've said, "Well, I guess I gave her the wrong tea.", which are his last words as a human being before becoming a frog in Shrek 2, which is a reference to that. And to add to that, the Fairy Godmother passes on upon becoming bubbles after angrily saying, "I told you ogres don't live happily ever after!" as her last words, making her let out an angry grunt after getting hit by electricity.
Goofs[]
Joe found the third clue without any drumroll.
When Mr. Salt sings "It's another..." his mouth does not move after saying the title.
The Viewer doesn't provide the answer to Blue's Clues, which is a rare occurrence.
While the third clue (a circle) was being drawn, it elicited a "Woah!"
This moment is reminiscent of a 2013 episode in Season 8 of Dora the Explorer titled "Catch That Shape Train," where Dora and Boots were unable to prevent Swiper from hiding Circulo behind the rocks.
When Joe sings the So Long Song, the living room is not centered correctly, and it is slightly shifted to the right.
Miss Marigold does not call the students that it's time to paint.
Reading time is not on the schedule, but it's only a special treat.
