Recap[]

It is a sunny morning in Storybook World, Mr. Salt greets us at the door and we are also greeted by Tickety Tock, Slippery Soap, Shovel, Pail, and Sidetable Drawer as Josh sings in the shower of his hopeful audition. ("Brand New Day")

After Josh is dressed and ready for another day, he sings and dances with his friends and has breakfast with the Spice Family. Just as Josh sits in the Thinking Chair, he wonders where Blue is and she appears under a spotlight adding a dance to Josh's routine as the number ends. Josh is hopeful he got an audition and is sure it came in the mail when Mailbox comes with the mail ("Mailtime").

Josh asks if it's the letter he has been waiting for and Mailbox thinks it is which leads Josh to exclaim in song "We Just Got A Letter." It truly is a letter when he opens it and finds a message from Rainbow Puppy saying that Josh got the audition and to come New York City at 3 to audition for a Broadway musical with Rainbow Puppy in New York City.

Everyone in the house is very happy for Josh! Josh reveals that he always wanted to audition for a Broadway musical since he was a child. Flashing back to the present, Josh is nervous to audition until Mr. Salt persuades him to go to New York City to audition for the Broadway musical and reminds him that the audition is later that day at 3. Josh wonders how they can get to New York City and Mr. Salt says he has put the address of the theater in Josh's Handy Dandy Notebook.

The Skidoo Express arrives and Josh is still nervous. He is unsure if he can do this without us and asks us to come with him to New York City. Mr. Salt tells Josh to make his dreams a reality and get that part and boards the Skidoo Express as he exclaims "We're On Our Way!" as everyone gives him a send off. The Skidoo Express gets closer and closer to the sign for New York, flies off the road, and after skidooing, lands in the middle of the city. ("Blue Skidoo") As the Skidoo Express heads back to Storybook World, Josh and Blue are in awe over the new sights and sounds, but the sights and sounds of New York are a bit too much for the two and Blue is so scared that she jumps into Josh's arms. Despite this, Blue and Josh are now on their way to the audition and explore the city. ("On Our Way")

Mr. Salt misses Josh and Blue and wonders what they are up to right now and Mrs. Pepper suggests that they are eating pretzels and asks the mustard bottle for "her" opinion, much to the bewilderment of the pretzel lady. Back in New York, Blue and Josh settle back down for their pretzel, they find "Madame Mustard" being squeezed but Josh realizes that the person who ordered the pretzel with mustard is not mad at mustard. Josh decides to check where the audition is and cannot find his Handy Dandy Notebook. Meanwhile, in Storybook World, Mr. Salt realizes that Josh accidentally left his Handy Dandy Notebook. Josh once again checks his pockets for the notebook with no luck. Mr. Salt decides to go find them in New York as it is his dream to be Josh's hero. ("Happiness is Magic (Mr. Salt)")

Slippery insists that Mr. Salt is not alone as "your family is always there for you" and Tickety Tock adds that "Josh and Blue are our family!" And Slippery and Tickety embark with Mr. Salt to New York via a special jet. Meanwhile, back in the city, Rainbow Puppy and her casting director (BD Wong) are searching for the star of her Broadway musical with no avail. Rainbow Puppy is at the verge of giving up but Rainbow Puppy's casting director is persistent to make Rainbow Puppy's dream come true.

Back in the park, Josh and Blue are searching for the Handy Dandy Notebook, with no luck. Josh also asks where the theater is but is answered with "There are over 100 theaters in New York City!" Josh and Blue come to the realization that without the Handy Dandy Notebook, they're lost in New York City. Blue comes up with a great idea to play a game of Blue's Clues in New York City! ("We're Gonna Play Blue's Clues") Josh asks for our help in finding the clues in order to help him find the theater and we once again learn how to play. ("Play Blue's Clues")

Mr. Salt, Slippery and Tickety Tock arrive in New York with Josh's Handy Dandy Notebook. Meanwhile, our first clue is found outside a music club, a piano. We also meet Ali Stroker who also sings the "Planets Song".

Mr. Salt, Slippery and Tickety Tock arrive at the Blue Prints Detective Agency, where Steve answers the door and recognizes us and notes how big you have gotten. After a brief reunion, Mr. Salt informs Steve that Josh and Blue are lost in New York City. Steve notes that this is a mystery and agrees to help. While walking, Steve takes note of everything in his own notebook and soon realizes that it's not only a big deal but... A MYSTERY. Steve realizes what he needs... A pretzel. Which helps him think because without the thinking chair Steve has been leading in to Thinking Snacks. At first Steve has a plan but loses it but then has a plan again. In order to solve this mystery they would need to have a clue, a message perhaps in the sky. Fortunately, Steve knows a guy.

Back in the park, it is almost time for Josh's audition, Josh urges us that we need to find the theater and fast! Luckily, there's another clue waiting for Josh, on the rainbow curtains on the Frederica Puppet Theater and Josh tells us we are good.

At the Present Store, Joe is just caught up on the current events thus far and is also surprised to see that we are there too and asks us about what we think of the New York City Present Store. Steve thinks it's lovely but he inquires about the rent in New York. Joe scoffs and says that "Every day's a gift... That you pay for."

He offers Steve a glass of cocoa, together with a swirly straw and the two reminisce together about the time Joe couldn't figure out the answer to Blue's Clues and it was 2 ducks and a goose, which was really Steve who couldn't figure that out. Mr. Salt brings back the focus, as Steve proposes an idea of sending out a clue, a message up in the sky so Josh and Blue know Joe and Steve are looking for them. At first, Joe is confused but then realizes what he is going on about.

Meanwhile, Josh tells us that we need to find one more clue so he can find his audition. He hears music and goes to the source of the music and meets Taboo who teaches Josh to find his song and to "take a deep breath and go for it." Josh goes around the park with Blue finding music and his song all around the park. ("That's My Song") At the same time, things start coming to life.

Meanwhile, Steve and Joe are in the park with balloons looking for Josh and Blue, when they hear Josh's voice and Blue's bark. Steve, Joe, Tickety Tock, Mr. Salt and Slippery Soap all rush to where the singing is coming from to find themselves in a choreographed musical number as their balloons deflate.

At the theater, the auditions continue. Rainbow Puppy wonders where Josh is.

Josh realizes that we need to find the last clue when appears on a stage, with a woman's help, the third clue is found. Now that all three clues are found, we are now ready to sit in the Thinking Chair, which appears on the stage. Josh sits down in the Thinking Chair in Central Park and reviews the clues which are a piano, rainbow curtains, and a theater. The answer was a theater with rainbow curtains and a piano. Josh shouts "We Just Figured Out Blue's Clues!" and dances a victory dance. ("We Just Figured Out Blue's Clues")

After they had figured out Blue’s Clues, Josh and Blue then hitch a ride to the theater in a taxi vehicle, though do not know the exact address to the theater. During the ride, they spot Steve, Joe, Mr. Salt, Tickety Tock, and Slippery Soap, and they join them. Mr. Salt gives Josh his handy-dandy notebook and Mr. Salt tells the address of the theater to the taxi driver: 12345 Broadway. By the time they've arrived however, they find out that the auditions are already over. Fortunately, Mr. Salt encourages Josh to get on the stage and sing from his heart. Josh finally gets to audition while singing "Happiness Is Magic" in the theater. Rainbow Puppy and the director see Josh singing on the Jumbotron and return to the theater to tell him they want him to play the lead role in the show. This makes Josh proud and happy as he exclaims "My dream is a reality".

The show was a big success as Josh sings and dances on stage not feeling nervous anymore ("Happiness Is Magic (Broadway)"). In the mid-credit scene, Josh and Blue tell the viewers that the movie is over as they sing "The So Long Song" as Josh says "Oh! No really! Now it’s over. So long."
